Bump Proof Lock - Preserving Your Family's Safety

by Rex Freiberger

If you think that you and your family are safe and sound when your front and back doors are locked, it not always true. Lock bumping is the most dangerous thing in the lock security world. All doors in your neighborhood can be unlocked or opened in a few seconds with almost no sound via bump keys. A lot of people in America use a pin tumbler lock which is defenseless to lock bumping.

Let's face it, when it comes to home security most of us are still living in the Stone Age. Things such as the bunk keys have been around for at least half a decade and still present a danger to our privacy and well being. Thankfully, there have been a few advancements in lock design that have allowed us to now be able to get a bump proof lock installed in our homes. These locks might be called high security lock but quiet honestly they are still a thing of the past when you consider the things affluent people can buy.

Lock bumping keys pose a real danger to the security of most front door locks. Making a bump key is child's play and they can be manufactured very quickly. In just a few seconds, the lock is turned and the safety and security of your premises has been compromised for thieves and intruders.

A bump proof lock does not need to be an expensive purchase since any local locksmith can turn a regular lock into a bump proof lock for a small fee. To stop bump key violations and lock picking tools you should try a new device that is on the market.

There are bump keys that will open all locks. A bump key is like a normal key filed down to the very lowest level in all channels. Such a key will open any pin tumbler lock in a few seconds thus allowing the burglar entrance into your home.

It is just common sense that the more a lock costs, it is probably harder to open. A higher priced lock will be easier turned after a bump as they are made of hardened steel, and with accuracy a must when they are machined, they will hold up during a bump. For bump key prevention, you would be better off purchasing a less expensive lock for less resistance to a knock.

Even if you feel secure by locking your doors, it could take less than a minute to open your home with a technique called lock bumping. A bump key can unlock conventional mechanical locks in a matter of seconds and the key itself is easily made. But there are bump key prevention systems on the market. A local locksmith can convert a standard lock into a bump proof lock, effectively preventing lock bumping. Do not think an expensive lock will necessarily be safer, they might actually be more susceptible to lock picking because they are more durable.
