These makes use of pre-calculated compound interest rates for a period of time. It shows the present worth of $1 to be paid at the end of various periods in the future, at different interest rates compounded annually. You can use annuity tables to calculate the present value of an investment you want to make in future, the value of a return on an investment you may receive in future, or to evaluate the worth of a present day investment in future. |

Example of an Annuity Table |
|
The first column in the table shows the years and the rows show the rates of interest. Each column thereafter displays the rate of interest compounded for one dollar for a particular year. To start with, you need to find the column under the rate of interest or cost of capital you are concerned with. Next, you will need to find the horizontal row corresponding to the number of years after which you will receive the payment. The point of intersection of the column and the row gives your present value of $1. Say, your money is exposed to a rate of interest of 4.5 percent over 17 years. The value of $1 at 4.5 percent rate after 17 years, as you can see from the table, is $2.11. To find out the worth of a particular amount of money, you simply need to multiply the amount of the money with the corresponding value you found out from the annuity table. The resultant amount is the present value of the amount. In our example, if you are expecting an amount of $50, 000, the present value of this after 17 years at 4.5 percent rate of interest is $105,669.00. Now, you can decide whether the investment you are considering is worth undertaking. |
